Describe your central passion(s) and how you hope to carry that into your post-grad plans:

I love storytelling. Whether it be through journalism and reporting on underrepresented communities in the media or copywriting for growing organizations and nonprofits, I’m always looking to tell stories that deserve to be heard. The stories that motivate the readers to think about people that are different from them.

What (or who) helped inspire your passion in this area (or areas)?

The communications department at Flagler has really helped me grow into the writer and communicator that I will be in my professional career. Specifically, Professors Chapman, Hammick, Kim, and Mangus have all shown me what it really means to be a communicator who is able to communicate to all groups.

Briefly tell us the story of one stand-out memory from your time at Flagler that will always make you smile:

COM Week 2022 was such an amazing experience. I was able to give a presentation on depictions of Black family values in one of my favorite shows that I used to watch with my dad called Good Times, while my dad watched in the audience. It was such a cool full-circle moment for me and I’m so grateful to Dr. Chapman for selecting me to present at Com Week.

What academic resources, experiences, or mentors proved most valuable throughout your Flagler experience?

All of my professors in the Communications Department have been extremely helpful throughout my years at Flagler, but my classmates have also been valuable. The tight-knit community that exists between the students in the Com department has been such a help in all my classes. It’s been so amazing to work with real life clients and the experience has been so much better because of the teams that I’ve had the pleasure of working with.

What is one piece of advice or lesson you learned about the college experience that you wish you could tell your freshman year self?

One thing I wish I could tell my freshman self is to get out there more! I was always scared of going to Flagler events during my freshman and sophomore years, and I can’t believe it took me so long to start going to all of the seminars and events that clubs on campus put on. They’ve been so much fun, and I’ve met some really amazing people through them.

Tell us about what you’re up to next! Any cool experiences, professional positions, or unique opportunities you have lined up after graduation?

After graduation, I will begin my career as a marketing director for a startup in Nocatee! I also plan to continue my copywriting, journalism and makeup careers and see where they take me!
