Women of Vision is a fund dedicated to investing in Flagler College’s young women, elevating their careers, and providing a lasting network of supportive female camaraderie and mentorship.

Our Background

Flagler College was founded in 1968 as a small, private college for women. The College’s centerpiece, the former Hotel Ponce de Leon, was built in 1888 by oil magnate, railroad pioneer, and land developer Henry Morrison Flagler. As a result, the College’s heritage is deeply linked with the history of Florida through Flagler’s life and works. Lawrence Lewis, one of Flagler’s principal heirs, served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees beginning in 1971, when the College officially became a coeducational institution. In 1972, Flagler College graduated its first class of 34 students, 31 of whom were women. Today, 70% of Flagler’s 2,500 undergraduates are women, meaning that the Women of Vision supports most of our student body.

Our Mission

The Women of Vision (WOV) recognizes and invests in exceptional female students at Flagler College. Each year, we raise funds to provide scholarships and career development to young women who demonstrate financial need and possess a proven record of academic distinction and community involvement. These deserving women enjoy a curated blend of educational and leadership opportunities and mentorship programs designed around empowering their unique talents.

Additionally, the WOV values the role of community in elevating our students’ academic and professional careers. We strive to cultivate a circle of successful women bonded to Flagler College and dedicated to supporting our female Saints across generations. To that end, we emphasize a paying-it-forward ethos, whereby donors and WOV scholars experience the profound impact that institutional support networks make upon recipients’ lives.

Power of the Purse®

Power of the Purse® is the signature fundraiser for the Women of Vision. A celebration of female camaraderie and women in the workplace, this special event hosts prominent women speakers, recognizes scholarship recipients and donors, features a silent and live auction, and raises money for financial aid and educational programs for women attending Flagler College. Since its inception in 2015, the WOV has raised over $1M and awarded 82 scholarships. These awards relieve young women of financial burdens and empower them to excel in their studies while pursuing research, internships, and service work; combined, these ventures prepare them for high-impact social engagement and vibrant, successful careers upon graduation.
