    Flagler College Art Professor Laura Mongiovi will discuss how sensory experiences involving color and texture impact individuals’ critical thinking skills on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Her talk is part of the college’s Community Lecture Series and will take place in the historic Solarium in Ponce Hall.

    Flagler College students recently took home 2017 American Advertising Federation-Jacksonville (AAF) “ADDY” awards on Feb. 4, including a “Student Best in Show” award by senior Courtney Babchyck for her animation titled “A Boy Called Jex.” The ceremony for the highly-recognized awards, which honor advertising creative excellence, was held on Saturday, Feb. 4.

    As part of Flagler College’s Writers-in-Residence series, author Maile Chapman will be discussing her book, “Your Presence Is Requested at Suvanto,” in the Gamache-Koger Theater on Monday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. Her fictional novel centers on the real and imagined experiences of women in a Finnish hospital during the 1920s.

    Pew Research Center director to discuss changing landscape of media

    As part of Flagler College’s Forum on Government and Public Policy lecture series, Lee Rainie of the Pew Research Center will discuss the organization’s latest findings on the state of politics and democratic institutions in the United States. He will also provide updates on the changing news media ecosystem enabled by the internet, mobile connectivity and social media. His talk will take place Thursday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. in Lewis Auditorium.

    After a coaching career that has spanned 36 years, 31 of those at Flagler College, head men’s basketball coach Bo Clark has announced his retirement at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season at a press conference this afternoon in the Flagler Room.

    As part of Flagler College’s Writers-in-Residence series, author Dr. Marvin Dunn will be discussing his latest book, “A History of Florida: Through Black Eyes”, focusing on the rare images and contributions African Americans made to the development of Florida, in the Solarium on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. Dunn said the inspiration behind his most recent work came from “the severe lack of information about Florida black history, especially the absence of a text that covered the entire span of the black presence in Florida.”

    Senior fellow Dr. Allen White, of the Boston-based sustainable development organization Tellus Institute, will discuss the role of business in practicing sustainability during a talk for the college’s Ideas & Images series on Tuesday, Jan. 24. He will serve as a substitute speaker for Margaret Fenwick, Flagler alumna and manager at the United Nations, who is not able to attend due to travel-related issues. The lecture will take place in Lewis Auditorium at 7 p.m.

    NFL star Doug Flutie to speak at Flagler College’s Athletics scholarship banquet in March

    Former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy recipient Doug Flutie will speak on the importance of being a student athlete, as this year’s keynote speaker for Flagler College’s annual Crimson & Gold Athletics Banquet on Friday, March 24. The banquet, which was originally scheduled in October but had to be rescheduled due to Hurricane Matthew, will be held in Flagler’s elegant dining room in Ponce Hall. The event starts at 6 p.m. with a social and a silent auction and dinner following at 7 p.m.

    Boston College Associate Professor of History Dr. Charles Gallagher will be discussing his in-depth investigation of a Boston-based Nazi conspiracy at the start of World War II, during a talk at Flagler College on Monday, Feb. 6. His lecture, titled “Espionage and Anti-Semitism: Nazi and British Intelligence in Wartime Boston” is part of the Cecile and Gene Usdin Judeo-Christian lecture series.

    Flagler College alumni will soon have a place to call home on-campus. Anderson Cottage, located at 48 Sevilla St. and between the Proctor Library and the Crisp-Ellert Art Museum, will be transformed into a central meeting hub for local and visiting alumni.
