Flagler College Announces 2022-2023 Theatre Arts Production Line Up

Aug 30, 2022

Students of Flagler’s Performing Arts Department are back on campus and gearing up for a year of spectacular theatre.

The department is excited to announce its 2022-2023 season which features four full-length productions aiming to bring a fresh perspective to familiar classics and contemporary issues.

“Theatre allows us, as humans, to come together and witness others go through something, live and in the moment” Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts and Chair of the Performing Arts Department, Leah Page said. “You can’t get that anywhere else- it’s magical.”

First of the season is a modern take of Shakespeare’s “Measure by Measure” adapted and directed by Dathan B. Williams. A story of complicated romance and deception.  Within this production, most actors play parts that cross traditional gender concepts.

Later this fall, departmental seniors complete their capstone project, a production composed of scripted scenes, original student work, and musical numbers about the AIDS epidemic.

If you’ve seen the Netflix mini-series “Maid,” you’ll want to catch the spring production of “Cry it Out,” both of which are written by Molly Smith Metzler. According to Page, the play is about the complexities of modern motherhood. The play has a comedic undercurrent and will have you thinking about “what it means to be a mom and trying to balance it all in life.”

The last show of the season is the new Broadway version of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.”
