Shelly Haser
Professional Profile
Dr. Haser has been the Director of the Lifelong Learning Institute since January 2023 and is also part of the administrative team at Flagler College’s Institute for Classical Education. She joined Flagler College in August 2021 as the Education Department chair (Tallahassee) and Education professor. During the spring 2022 semester, she oversaw the Education Department's FL DOE reaccreditation process. She has over 25 years of experience in higher education as a department head, department chair, and faculty member at Robert Morris University and Marymount University (Arlington, VA). She started her higher education teaching at Trinity University in Washington, DC as an assistant professor. Teacher preparation, teacher education program accreditation, teacher education administration, and higher education program development and assessment are her areas of expertise.
She has authored or co-authored numerous articles, including the 2022 article, "Unlikely Additions: One Institute of Higher Education Plus Two Early Childhood Education Care Centers Equal Investment in Adult Learners". This phenomenological research was a result of a PA state government early childhood grant and was recognized in 2021 by Robert Morris University (RMU) Provost as the most impactful research by a team of faculty. Dr. Haser's primary role in the grant was in program development and data collection. The article is accessible through the University of Pittsburgh open-source journals. Dr. Haser has presented at regional, national, and international conferences and was a Fulbright Lecturer in 2002 at Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovakia for a semester. In 2007, she was awarded the Marymount faculty CIEE study abroad grant and spent part of that summer in London, England. There she participated in CIEE lectures while studying the private and public British school system. Her undergraduate student teaching experience was in Appalachia WVA. Her career started as a third, fourth, and ESE teacher in the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) in VA. She was selected by the NJ DOE as a participate in a US-Russian teacher exchange program while a third-grade teacher and spent six-weeks in the Ural Mountains teaching U.S. History and sharing American culture with K-12 Russian students. In her early 20s, she spent 12 months as an au-pair in Zurich, Switzerland.
