Eighth Annual Power of the Purse® Fundraiser Planned at Flagler College

Power of the Purse Save the Date
April 5, 2023
The Women of Vision Advisory Board of Flagler College announces its signature fundraiser, the Power of the Purse®, on May 11, 2023. This premier event features a silent auction of designer handbags and other unique items, a raffle of fine jewelry, and a luncheon and speaker in the Grand Dining Room of historic Ponce de Leon Hall. This year the Power of the Purse® will introduce a new program element: a live auction of several exciting vacation excursions.

All funds raised are used to support scholarships and educational opportunities for young women studying at Flagler. These awards relieve financial burdens and empower these exemplary students to excel in their studies while pursuing research, internships, and service work.

“Plans are well underway for this year’s Power of the Purse®,” said Women of Vision Advisory Board Chair Linda Allen –Hawkins. “For the first time ever, AMARA Med Spa, will be our Presenting Sponsor. It promises to be the most exciting ever!”

“We are delighted to announce that our program will feature guest speaker Letti Bozard,” added Liz Dolan, Vice Chair of Women of Vision and Chair of Power of the Purse®. “Letti is well-known in the automotive industry throughout the country.”

A native of the St. Augustine area, Letti was born in Palatka, educated in her early years in St. Augustine and Jacksonville, and received her college degree from Flagler College in 1997.  Bozard went on to earn her master’s of business administration degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and began her career in the automotive industry by joining her family’s local Ford dealership more than 20 years ago.

Bozard Ford Lincoln, where she currently serves as Vice President, was opened by her grandparents in l949. It was through this family business that Bozard developed her unique management philosophy and leadership style. The result is a dealership that currently ranks seventh in the country out of over 2,900 dealers nationally.

At the event, senior Abigail Belchior will also be awarded the 2022-2023 Robin Cooper Memorial Scholarship. Abigail is set to graduate with a degree in Coastal Environmental Science this May. She exceeds the standard scholarship qualifications, demonstrating a genuine concern for the world around her and those who inhabit it. These were strong characteristics of Robin Cooper, co-founder of Women of Vision and the Power of the Purse®, who passed away in 2018.

Belchior joins more than 60 students to have received a WOV scholarship since the Power of the Purse®  began in 2015. This event has raised over $850,000, helping WOV cultivate an endowment of more than $430,000.

These numbers underscore the dedication and influence of WOV, especially given that in 2020, the Power of the Purse® was canceled amid the pandemic. In 2021, the event was held in a virtual format. Support from generous sponsors and donors who believe in the advisory board’s mission allowed the WOV to continue the scholarship award tradition.
