Merit release: FLARE Spring '24 Anniversary Issue Earns Top Honors in National Contest

Flagler is proud to announce that the Spring 2024 anniversary issue of FLARE, the College's student-run literary and arts publication, has been awarded the "Superior" rating in the prestigious Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) contest.

Organized by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), REALM's accolade for FLARE places it among the top student-produced literary magazines in the nation, celebrating the exceptional talent and dedication of its student editors and contributors.

Congratulations to the talented team of student editors: Sophia Falber, Aidan West, Alayna Brower, Marissa Kempf, Annella Rizzuto, Isabella Galasso, Grace Kirkland, Corliss Cranwell, Jaden Rudd, Ainsley McCullen, Alejandro Lugo Cortes, and Eva Michie.  

Special recognition also goes to FLARE's graphic designer, alumna Cheyenne Koth, and Faculty Supervisor, Professor Lauren Tivey, for their guidance and support.

The REALM contest is designed to encourage schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing. By recognizing outstanding publications, the program highlights the importance of literary expression and the role of educators in nurturing young writers and artists.

FLARE: The Flagler Review has a long-standing tradition of showcasing the creativity and originality of its contributors. Established in 1989, the journal has evolved into a beacon of artistic expression, providing a platform for both emerging and experienced writers and artists from around the globe. Each issue is a testament to the hard work and passion of the student editors who meticulously curate and produce the magazine.

The Spring 2024 issue marks the 35th anniversary of FLARE, making this recognition even more special. The issue features a diverse array of poetry, fiction, flash fiction, creative nonfiction, and art, all selected through a rigorous blind reading process. The dedication and skill of its student editors have ensured that FLARE continues to inspire and engage its readers.
