Mattie Heart

The Reverend Dr. Mattie Hart was ordained in 1971 and chose to follow her heart and entered the University of Durham gaining her Ph.D. in Divinity in 1975. After her return to the U.S., she worked with Young Life in Jacksonville, Fla., where contacts gave her the opportunity to become a professor at Flagler College until her retirement in 1996. During her time in St. Augustine, she found her church home at Memorial Presbyterian Church, was active as guest pastor, and volunteered with many of the outreach programs offered through the church.
Lou Preysz

After a long career of military service, Lou Preysz began teaching in the Business and Economics Department at Flagler in 1982, where he taught in the management and marketing disciplines. During his 26-year career on Flagler’s faculty, he served as assistant, then associate professor in management and marketing until his retirement in the summer of 2008, when he was awarded the title of Associate Professor Emeritus. He led the Society for Advancement of Management team to eight national management case championships. He also brought inspirational mentorship to the Flagler men’s basketball team as chaplain for a number of years.
Michael Sherman

Michael Sherman was raised in Tanganika, East Africa, but came to the States to do his graduate studies in sociology at Duke University in North Carolina. He taught briefly at Apalachian State before becoming the chairman of the Social Science Department at Flagler College, where he taught for more than 40 years. He was well-respected as a colleague and a teacher. He also had a special interest in indigenous populations and spent time on native American reservations in the southwest and in Florida.
Darwin White

As part of the Flagler College family for almost 30 years, Darwin White made a lasting impact, and was instrumnetal in the growth of the College as an educator, coach, Athletic Director, Dean of Students and Registrar. He served as Flagler's second Director of Athletics from 1975-77 and as head baseball coach from 1976-78. He played an important role helping Flagler become a member of the NAIA under his direction. He later served Flagler in the role of Registrar from 1994-2003, and is best known by students for his long stint as Dean of Students from 1977-1994.
