Tuesday, Oct. 8, 12 PM
In anticipation of potential weather impacts from Hurricane Milton, Flagler College has closed campus as of 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, including residential halls. The College will remain closed until the all-clear is given.
St. Johns County has issued an evacuation order that includes downtown St. Augustine and other coastal areas beginning Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 8 a.m. Hurricane evacuation shelters will be opened by Emergency Management officials at that time. If possible, evacuees should seek alternatives other than shelters outside of the evacuation area. For more information on the county’s evacuation order, evacuation zones and shelters, visit: https://www.sjcfl.us/evacuation-information/
The St. Augustine area is currently under a Hurricane Warning, which means hurricane-force winds are expected somewhere within this area within the next 36 hours, as well as a Storm Surge Warning, meaning there is a danger of life-threatening inundation from rising water moving inland from the coastline within the next 36 hours.
Campus Information
- All classes have moved to remote learning and remain remote for the rest of the week.
- All residential halls closed at 12 p.m. on Tuesday. All students should refer to and implement their evacuation plans. Please be mindful to take essential belongings, including chargers, textbooks, computers, etc.

At this time, forecasters are expecting the storm to make landfall on the west coast of Florida. We are taking the storm seriously and are closing the campus ahead of a possible mandatory evacuation order from St. Johns County. Flagler College has endured several storms in the past, and College officials have a lot of experience dealing with and recovering from storms.
